What is America’s Cup?

The America's Cup is the world's most famous sailing competition and the oldest international sporting trophy. First held in 1851.

For the first 132 years the America’s Cup was held by the New York Yacht Club, one of the most prestigious clubs in the world. Until in 1983 they lost the trophy to Australia. Since that date, the America’s Cup has only been won by the United States, Switzerland, and New Zealand. The current Defender is New Zealand.

The name America's Cup comes from the winner of the regatta — a schooner named America.

The America's Cup Race Village and all the men’s team bases are located in the Barcelona Port Vell area.

The America's Cup team bases for the women's and youth teams are situated in the Barcelona Port Olímpic.

Thursday August 22 2024 – Sunday October 27 2024 . . .

August 22: Louis Vuitton 37th America's Cup opening ceremony.

August 22 - 25: Start of the last preliminary regatta.

August 29 - September 8: Louis Vuitton Cup Round Robins races where the four top ranked challenger teams go through to the Semi Finals and the fifth is eliminated. 

September 14 - 19: Louis Vuitton Cup Semi Finals.

September 17 - 26: Youth America's Cup.

September 26 - October 5: Louis Vuitton Cup Final. The fight for the right to race Emirates Team New Zealand in the Louis Vuitton 37th America's Cup Match.

October 5 - 13: Puig Women's America's Cup.

October 10: Opening ceremony of the Louis Vuitton 37th. America's Cup Match final.

October 12 - 27: The Louis Vuitton America's Cup Match, consisting of thirteen regattas. The first team to win seven points will be the winner of the Louis Vuitton 37th. America's Cup.
