UNESCO
Most Beautiful Bays In The World Club
Since 2011, the Bay of Roses (which includes the beaches of L'Escala, Sant Marti d'Empuries, Sant Pere Pescador, Empuriabrava and Roses) is in the Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club! This is a UNESCO endorsed classification.
This is a really impressive distinction for a bay to have. The bay must have...
- flora and fauna of significant interest
- outstanding natural beauty
- appreciated at local and national levels
- have two features recognised by UNESCO in the cultural or natural assets categories
The Bay of Roses became a member of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club because it has 3 natural parks, 45 km of award winning (EMAS and Blue Flag) beaches, a large number of nautical sports facilities and is renowned for it's fabulous cuisine!
There are 48 bays in the world that are in the Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club (which was founded in 1997).
