Scuba Diving - Do We Need To Book In Advance?

We have planned to do scuba diving for 4 people on the 8th of September.
Do we need to book this in advance or will we be able to dive on the day with diving training?

Hi Vodhi

The best place to stay to dive the Medes Islands is L’Estartit. The Medes Islands are only 1 mile (1.6km) off L’Estartit beach.

2 days will be enough for scuba diving. It only takes a few minutes to get out to the Medes Islands by boat with one of the scuba diving companies in L’Estartit and so you could easily do a couple of dives a day.

If you don’t have a dive certification (i.e. PADI open water) you will have to do try dives and there will be a limit on what you can do on those types of dives. Basic swimming is ok as long as you are confident in the water and are not likely to panic.

To get the first level of dive certification you are required to:

swim 200 metres/yards (or 300 metres/yards in mask, fins and snorkel). There is no time limit for this, and you may use any swimming strokes you want.
float and tread water for 10 minutes, again using any methods that you want.

Hi Imogen

I am planning to visit Costa Brava. The plan in brief is to fly from Alicante to Barca on 2nd June and then come to Costa Brava by Bus.

I plan to stay here till 3rd June (afternoon) post which I go back to Barcelona. Thus 2 nights.

Needed advice for

1. Where to stay if I want to do Scuba Diving near the Medes Island. Should I stay in Roses/L'Estartit

2. Will two days be enough for Scuba Diving. I know very basic swimming.
