The bay of Roses is one long sand beach, invisibly split into the different beaches of L’Escala, Sant Marti D’Empuries, Sant Pere Pescador, Empuriabrava and Roses.
It is backed at one end by the Montgri Massif (behind L’Escala) and at the other end by the Cap de Creus headland (behind Roses).
Platja de Roses is very very long and sandy...1,790 m long!
It’s split into 3 sections (called Salata, Rastrell and Nova) by two streams.
Running along the length of the beach is a long shady palm tree lined promenade - great for walking, roller blading, cycling or just sitting!
Behind the beach is the Roses resort (a low rise development of apartments and hotels), but the back drop to Roses beach is completely dominated by the mighty Cap de Creus headland.
Platja de Roses has been awarded a Blue Flag for the last 4 years. It has also been awarded an EMAS Certificate.

Spain Beaches...Roses beach 4 - PLATJA DE LA PALANGRES
Platja de la Palangres is a 140 m long sand beach, located between the harbour and the headland.
Platja de la Palangres facilities:
shaded picnic area with stone benches and tables
car park
drink/ice cream stand
Spain Beaches...Roses beach 5 - PLATJA DE CANYELLES PETITES
Platja de Canyelles Petites is a pretty and relatively small sandy beach (370 m long), but that means that it can get quite crowded in the height of the summer.
Canyelles Petites beach is a five minute 3 km drive further round the Cap de Creus headland from Roses.
Whilst it is not free from development (there is no break between Roses and Canyelles), the buildings behind Canyelles Petites beach are all low rise climbing up the hillside, broken up by pine trees dotted here and there, so it still retains a lot of its Mediterranean charm.
Platja de Canyelles Petites has been awarded a Blue Flag for the last 4 years.

Spain Beaches...Roses beach 6 - PLATJA DE LA BONIFACI
Platja de la Bonifaci is a small strip of sand (100 m long) just round the headland from Platja de Canyelles Petites.
The rocks at the east end of the beach make for great snorkelling.
Spain Beaches...Roses beach 7 - PLATJA DE L'ALMADRAVA
Platja de L’Almadrava is another attractive sandy beach, a bit bigger than Platja de Canyelles Petites (450 m long).
Platja de L’Almadrava is a 5 km ten minute drive further round the Cap de Creus headland from Roses.
L’Almadrava beach has slighty less development behind it than Platja de Canyelles Petites, but it can still get quite crowded in the height of the summer due to its proximity to Roses.
Platja de L’Almadrava has been awarded a Blue Flag for the last 4 years. It has also been awarded an EMAS Certificate.
Platja de L’Almadrava facilities:
wheelchair accessible

volley ball nets

The seclude coves of Roses…
After L’Almadrava beach the development along the Cap de Creus headland almost immediately petters out to practically nothing...
